Volvo’s Thomas Ingenlath Awarded For “Design Heroism”

In 2012, Volvo hired on Thomas Ingenlath as their senior vice president of design. The rest is history. Since then, Ingenlath has left an indelible mark on the brand—with the new XC90, S90, V90, and most recently, the XC60 all bearing his signature touch. While all of these models have been awarded, the design boss himself has been left in the shadows until this year’s AutoCar awards.

It was at this award’s event that Ingenlath was awarded the “Design Hero” prize for his fresh take on the brand’s visual cues. Favoring striking details, clean and simple lines, and striking proportions, much of his inspiration comes from traditional Scandinavian aesthetics. To give an example of this, he showcased a V90 T6 Inscription as an example. Featuring Maple Brown paint, 20-inch eight-spoke diamond-cut wheels, a panoramic sun roof and dark tinted windows to let in the right amount of natural light, and an interior of walnut wood inlays and charcoal and blond Nappa leather, it was the perfect example.

You can experience Mr. Ingenlath’s work for yourself in the latest of our new Volvo offerings, and sample it in the video above. If you have your eye on one, contact our Owing Mills, MD showroom to learn more, or schedule a test drive.
